Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

  • Bachelor’s degree in any degree
  • Fundamental Chemistry, Elements of Botany and Elements of Zoology

The prevailing socio-ecological problems require a multidisciplinary approach that transcends the usual boundaries of science and decision-making. An integration of natural sciences with social sciences and humanities in a holistic study of the world around us is required to achieve the objectives of the programme. This programme trains students in wide-ranging interdisciplinary thinking skills and provides them with the ability to study and understand the environmental and sustainability issues with special reference to Northeast India. The course includes the biological and social matter that relate to current environmental issues, conservation strategies, legal aspects, basic ecological and technological concerns and advances, and scientific analysis and solutions to environmental problems.

The programme seeks to help students to:

  • Acquire and apply scientific knowledge on environmental issues so as to understand the essential underlying scientific concept
  • Develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues by relating scientific knowledge with environmental, social, cultural (indigenous), and economic perspectives
  • Acquire the necessary problem-solving skills that would enable them to examine and propose alternatives to a variety of environmental problems through research and experimentation
  • Critically evaluate their attitudes, behaviour and values and consequently adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, an element of responsible global citizenship.
